Set Up an Instant Response Text on a Phone Number

Set up instant response to send automatic text messages to missed calls from first-time callers. The instant response messages have a 160-character maximum.

Before you begin:
About this task: Instant response messages will not be sent for the following reasons:
  • First-time callers who leave a voicemail.
  • Repeat callers.
  • Callers who hang up before selecting an extension.
  • Callers who are existing contacts in your phone.
Attention: If using a toll-free phone number for instant response, make sure you have verified your phone number for text messages.

Web portal

  1. Sign in at https://nuui.us.grasshopper.com.
  2. Go to Settings > Instant Response.
  3. Enable the toggle next to the desired phone number.
  4. To modify the instant response message, select Edit and then make the desired changes.
  5. Select Save.
  6. Optional: Select Apply To All to use the new message for all phone numbers.

Desktop app

  1. From the desktop app, select the settings gear in the top right.
  2. Select Instant Response.
  3. Enable the toggle next to the desired phone number.
  4. To modify the instant response message, select Edit and then make the desired changes.
  5. Select Save.
  6. Optional: Select Apply To All to use the new message for all the phone numbers.

Mobile app

  1. From the mobile app, select Settings from the bottom right.
  2. Select Instant Response.
  3. Choose the phone number you want to set up and then select Edit.
  4. Enter your new instant response message and then select Save.
  5. Optional: Select Apply To All to use the new message for all phone numbers.
