Set Up an Instant Response Text on a Phone Number
DEADLINE: Carriers will begin blocking unregistered outbound SMS on October 1, 2024, with all unregistered outbound messages blocked by December 1, 2024. This change follows a government-mandated regulation aimed at protecting consumers from spam. Mobile carriers require the completion of a registration process to continue sending text messages. Register now to avoid any service disruption.
Set up instant response to send automatic text messages in response to missed calls. The instant response messages have a 160-character maximum.
- Users must be admins to set up and use instant response.
- SMS texting must be enabled as an add-on to use instant response.
- Callers who leave a voicemail.
- Callers who hang up before selecting an extension
Web portal
- Sign in at https://nuui.us.grasshopper.com.
- Go to .
- Enable the toggle next to the desired phone number.
- To modify the instant response message, select Edit and then make the desired changes.
- Select Save.
- From Preferences, select the desired recipient type:
- First-time callers — This is the default setting.
- All callers — The instant response will only be sent once per caller per day, regardless if multiple calls are made to the same Grasshopper number from the same caller.
- Optional: Select Apply To All to use the new message for all phone numbers.
Desktop app
- From the desktop app, select the settings gear in the top right.
- Select Instant Response.
- Enable the toggle next to the desired phone number.
- To modify the instant response message, select Edit and then make the desired changes.
- Select Save.
- Optional: Select Apply To All to use the new message for all the phone numbers.
Mobile app
- From the mobile app, select Settings from the bottom right.
- Select Instant Response.
- Choose the phone number you want to set up and then select Edit.
- Enter your new instant response message and then select Save.
- Optional: Select Apply To All to use the new message for all phone numbers.
