Send Text Messages
DEADLINE: Carriers will begin blocking unregistered outbound SMS on October 1, 2024, with all unregistered outbound messages blocked by December 1, 2024. This change follows a government-mandated regulation aimed at protecting consumers from spam. Mobile carriers require the completion of a registration process to continue sending text messages. Register now to avoid any service disruption.
Send text messages, group text messages, and MMS.
Before you begin: To send text messages, an admin must enable texting for your user account.
- Text messages have a character limit of 160 characters, including spaces.
- Texts from local or toll-free phone numbers cannot be sent to or received from international numbers.
- Texts cannot be sent from a toll-free number to a Canadian phone number.
- MMS and group texting aren’t supported for toll-free numbers.
- Texts cannot be sent to short codes (i.e., no voting for American Idol).
- There's no guarantee that short-code text messages to your Grasshopper number will be delivered.
- If using a toll-free phone number for texting, verify your phone number for text messages.
- If using a local phone number for texting, register your brand and SMS for 10DLC compliance.
- Text messages cannot be downloaded.
Desktop App
- From the desktop app, select Messages from the left navigation menu.
- Choose the phone number you’d like to use for texting from the drop-down menu in the top left.
- Select to send a new text message or choose an existing conversation.
- Enter the recipient’s phone number in the To field.
Note: You can create a group text by adding up to 10 contacts.
- At the bottom, type your new message and then press enter on your keyboard.
- Optional: Select to attach a file or image to the message.
- The maximum combined file size is 1MB, with five attachments per message.
- Supported file types: .JPG, .JPEG, .PNG, MOV, and MP4.
- Optional: To delete a text message, hover over the message and select the trash can. To delete a conversation, select the circle to the left of the conversation and then select the trash can icon above.
Mobile App
- From the mobile app, select Messages (Conversations) from the bottom of the screen.
- Choose the phone number you’d like to use for texting from Text from.
- Select + to send a new text message or choose an existing conversation.
- Search for a contact's name or number and choose a contact from the results.
Note: You can create a group text by adding up to 10 contacts.
- At the bottom, type your new message and then select .
- Optional: Select to attach a file or image to the message.

- Optional: To delete a text message, press and hold the text message you’d like to delete, select More, and then select Delete in the bottom left. To delete a conversation, swipe left on the conversation, select Delete, and then select Delete Conversation. To archive a conversation, swipe left on the conversation and select Archive.
