In order to initiate a phone number transfer, we’ll need some specific details about your existing contract with your phone carrier. It’s best to ensure you have easy access to all necessary information before you begin so that you don’t have to go digging for it later.
If you are unsure of any of the required information, we recommend obtaining a copy of your Customer Service Record to find the exact information. Any discrepancies can cause your request to be rejected or delayed, so this step is important.
The following information is required:
- Existing phone number(s) to transfer – The local, toll-free or Canadian phone numbers that you want to transfer away from your existing carrier and into your Grasshopper account. Note that you can include multiple local phone numbers on a single transfer request form, but each toll-free or Canadian number will require a separate form.
- Grasshopper phone number – Each new Grasshopper account is given a unique phone number, even if it’s only temporary while you transfer in your existing number. You need one of these phone numbers to indicate which account the phone number(s) should be transferred into.
- Authorizing name –The account holder’s name exactly as it appears with your existing phone provider.
- Billing phone number –The phone number that is affiliated with current account with your current phone provider.
- Current service provider – Verizon, AT&T, T Mobile, etc.
- Address – Numbers cannot be transferred with a P.O. Box listed as the service address. Make sure you provide the actual physical service address that is listed with your current provider.
- Account number (wireless numbers only) – This refers to the account with your current carrier. The format of this will vary depending on your existing carrier; in some cases it may be the phone number being transferred, while in others it will be a unique account ID. The Account Number can often be found on a billing statement from your current service provider.
- Account PIN (wireless numbers only) – Most phone providers require a PIN for security, which is often used like a password. Please check with your carrier on whether your account uses a PIN.
- Last 4 digits of SSN (wireless numbers only) – This should be from the social security number of the current account holder for the phone number being transferred.
- Tax ID number – This is only needed for business accounts
