Get started with Grasshopper.
Important: The setup assistant is available for new customers who sign up after May 5, 2024, and for new customers who used it to onboard after May 5, 2024, to make additional changes to their settings.
You can access the setup assistant in our apps!
  • Mobile app (iOS and Android): Select Settings from the bottom right and then select Setup Assistant.
  • Desktop app: Select Setup Assistant from the left navigation menu.

Extensions

Extensions determine how calls are routed within your account. Use one extension to forward all incoming calls to your personal cell phone, or use extensions along with your main greeting to direct callers to different departments or employees.

About Grasshopper extensions

Your account was created with extension 0 that has call forwarding set up to forward to the contact number you signed up with.

Within your Grasshopper account you have 2 types of extensions: department (0-6) and employee (700-799). Both types function the same and can be used interchangeably. There's also extension 8 that is set aside as your company's name directory.

Tip: From the setup assistant, select Edit icon to edit the following:
  • Extension number
  • Extension name
  • Add call forwarding numbers and change the status and ring duration
  • Record or upload a voicemail greeting

Configure your call settings.

About Grasshopper call settings

Within your Grasshopper account, you can customize the call experience you want your customers to have. From determining what they see when you call them, to what they hear when they call you, there are many options to suit your needs. You can even set up a text message to be sent automatically to a first time caller if you cannot answer their call.

After your initial setup in the setup assistant you can update and customize other call settings from the Grasshopper admin portal.
  • Create a schedule
  • Change my caller ID
  • Enable call blasting
  • Set up an instant response text on a phone number
  • Add a greeting
  • Choose hold music for my callers

SMS verification

Due to new compliance regarding messaging, registration is required to use SMS. The regulation is put in place to protect consumers from receiving spam, fraud, and unwanted messages.
  • For local phone numbers: Register your local phone number to enable texting
  • For toll-free phone numbers: Verify your toll-free phone number to enable texting

User invitation

Add users and manage their profiles.

About Grasshopper users

Add employees as users on your Grasshopper account to take calls. Depending on their permissions, users with admin permissions can also update call settings, invite users, and manage billing.

Note:
  • From the setup assistant, select More icon > Edit to add the user's Personal info.
  • From Permissions, choose the options for the new user and then select Send invite to send an email to the new user to finish creating their account.

  • Give a user texting permissions
  • Reset a user's password
  • Delete a user

Review

Review your account setup options and return to a section to make changes if you need to.

Tip: Make a test call with an outside phone to ensure the call flow is what you expect.
