FAQs for the Desktop App
What is the desktop app?
The Grasshopper desktop app allows you to make and receive calls over your local area network (LAN) or WiFi network. You can even send and receive text messages, get notifications for voicemails, missed calls and more, all on your computer.
How do I download the desktop app?
The desktop app is available for Windows and Mac and can be downloaded here .
What credentials do I use to log into the desktop app?
You'll use the same credentials you use to log into your account online or our mobile apps . They all share the same login information.
When I'm logged into the desktop app, what happens to my calls?
When you're logged into the desktop app, we'll try to reach you there and at your forwarding number(s) simultaneously.
We'll try to reach you on the desktop app for a maximum of 30 seconds. If you don't answer, we'll stop trying to reach you there but continue to follow your call forwarding rules for the rest of your forwarding numbers. If you don’t answer after we've tried you at the desktop app and your forwarding numbers, the call will be sent to voicemail.
How do I choose the extension(s) I want to receive calls for in the desktop app?
You can select the extensions you want to receive calls for in the desktop app from the extensions drop-down menu at the top of the app.
To receive calls for all extensions, select All Extensions. Otherwise, simply select the extensions you want to receive calls for and we'll only send calls to those extensions to the desktop app.
Does the desktop app follow my call forwarding rules?
No, it does not. Once you're logged into the desktop app, we'll always try to reach you there. If you do not want to receive calls outside of your call forwarding hours on the desktop app, you'll need to turn on the Do Not Disturb feature or log out of the desktop app altogether.
Am I using my plan minutes when I use the desktop app?
Inbound calls received on the desktop app will consume minutes in your plan. Please note that outbound calls on the Grasshopper platform do not consume minutes – so making calls from the desktop app won’t cost you anything!
Is the desktop app available on my iPad or tablet?
Unfortunately, it is not. At this time, the Grasshopper Desktop app is only available for your Mac and Windows devices.
Can I transfer calls from the desktop app over to my mobile phone (and vice-versa)?
At this time – calls made or received on the desktop app will need to stay on the desktop app until the call is completed. We are working on some capabilities to allow you start calls on the desktop and seamlessly move them over to your mobile app and vice versa but they are not yet ready for production.
Are there any limitations to the desktop app?
Yes, there are a few limitations to the desktop app currently but we're working on them!
- Our Windows app is only available for 64-bit Windows 7 operating systems and later
- Unable to delete voicemails and text messages
- Can't save or create contacts in the app
- Group messages are not support yet
- Cannot block numbers
